Dry Eye Management

Tear film of the eye

What is Dry Eye Disease?

Dry eyes can be due to an inadequate amount of tear production or a poor composition of the tear film. Dry eye relief therapies can range from lubricating eye drops, to medications, to lid procedures. . Determining the root cause of the dryness will better help you and your optometrist find the most effective treatment.

Ocular discomfort

Symptoms and Causes of Dry Eye

Dry eye symptoms include redness, irritation, watering, and a scratchy sensation. In advanced cases of dryness, the patient may experience visual changes as well.  There are a number of factors that can trigger dry eye, including environmental factors, systemic diseases, and/or extended amounts of time on screens.  Our optometrists can help treat your dry eyes symptoms but also determine the cause for better long-term results.

Scleral Lenses for Dry Eye

For patients with moderate to severe dry eye, scleral lenses can provide lasting relief and comfort. Unlike traditional contact lenses, scleral lenses vault over the cornea and rest on the white part of the eye, with a liquid reservoir between the lens and the surface of the eye. This constant layer of moisture helps protect the cornea, reduce irritation, and improve vision quality.

Beyond dry eye relief, scleral lenses are also an excellent option for patients with high prescriptions or irregular corneas , where traditional contact lenses or glasses may not provide clear or comfortable vision. By combining hydration with enhanced clarity, scleral lenses offer a transformative solution for many patients who previously struggled with dryness or limited correction options.

ZEST at Lakeview Vision

Lakeview Vision now offers ZEST Treatments for dry eye and blepharitis. The Zocular Eyelid System Treatment (ZEST) targets the lid margins and lashes. This deep cleaning system removes bacteria, dirt, debris and demodex that can cause irritation and inflammation of the eyes.

The procedure is performed in-office with a natural okra-based gel pod that is applied to the lid margin and used to deep clean and debride the lids and lashes. It is a quick and painless procedure that provides immediate results.

Itchy, gritty and burning eyes are often the results of dirt, unwanted oils and debris along the eyelids. They can cause inflammation and redness on the surface of the eyes. ZEST can effectively provide relief of irritation and leave you feeling clean and refreshed.
