Emergency Eye Care

An eye emergency should be addressed as soon as possible. Proper and timely treatment may prevent permanent vision loss and signficiantly reduce discomfort. Most ocular emergencies can be managed at the optometrist's office. If you are unsure if your condition requires a trip to the emergency room, please do not hesitate to contact our office for further information.

Our office tries to accommodate all same-day emergency cases, with or without a referral. The optometrists are equipped to properly diagnose eye conditions and can often provide similar services to the hospital emergency department - but with a shorter wait time. All of our optometrists are certified in the use of topical therapeutic pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of eye disease.

Ocular emergencies may include, but are not limited to:

  • Red and/or painful eyes
  • Flashes of light and/or new onset floaters in the vision
  • Sudden full/partial loss of vision
  • Foreign objects in the eye (such metal, chemicals, etc)
  • Trauma to the eye
  • Sudden double vision
  • Chemical injury

These visits may be covered by OHIP, regardless of age. For more information, please contact our office.
